Veeam makes backup and recovery software, sold today as the Veeam Data Platform. It backs up virtual machines on VMware and Hyper-V, physical Windows and Linux servers, workloads in the major clouds, and, through Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, the mail, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams data that Microsoft itself does not keep forever.
For ransomware, the features that matter are immutable backups, which cannot be changed or deleted for a set period even by an admin account, and scanning of backups for malware before they are restored. SureBackup can start a backup in an isolated lab to prove it boots. Restores range from a single file to an entire server.
A free Community Edition covers small setups. Most small businesses run Veeam on their own backup server or through an MSP. Keep at least one copy off site or immutable, and test a full restore on a schedule instead of trusting the green checkmarks.
